Insane In The Membrane

Yep, it’s March Madness time! Time for Joe Lunardi to give his “Last Four In and Last Four Out” crap until the 68 teams are determined. This year has been an awful year for determining who could win the NCAA Championship. Every team that has held the #1 ranking have lost games to inferior teams and some are even third or fourth in their conferences, but are ranked in the Top 10 of all Division I teams. Go figure!

March Madness is no longer an event between 68 teams, but a month or more of media madness with insane commentary and hypothetical predictions that make me want to slap someone. It has gotten to the point that I’ve just turned the sound off in order to watch the game, because the commentators are so biased as well as asinine at times that I can’t stomach it. What happened to telling the truth about what they’re actually watching? When a bad call is made they used to say it, regardless if it was for or against the home team. Or if a player was marginal or not they would say it, but now they say he’s a Wooden Award candidate or he’s going to make some NBA team better when he gets to the next level. I just want to scream “Stop It!’

As I type this blog, money is being made. NCAA tickets are being bought for tournaments held across the country. Hotel and airline flights are being reserved to get to these games and for lodging. Restaurants and stores in these locations are preparing for the big rush of NCAA crazed fans that will flock their businesses. Fortunately and unfortunately, law enforcement and security companies are preparing in these locations for organizational and logistical purposes as well as for unforeseen criminal activity. All of this results into billions of dollars being generated on the backs of 68 men’s basketball teams. By the way, the winners get a hat and a t-shirt. Now that’s Madness!
