That's Crazy!

The English language is the most difficult language to grasp or understand due to the multiple definitions or usages we have for so many words. We have fundamental English and we have “Slang” English as well. For example, I can say “That’s crazy!” and that could have several meanings. It could mean that what I saw or heard was amazing or unbelievable in a positive sense or vice versa. It’s kind of like when RUN DMC says in their song Peter Piper, “Not Bad meaning Bad, but Bad meaning Good!” So I was thinking about what has transpired over the past couple of weeks in sports that would fit under “That’s Crazy!” negative meaning and I came up with a few examples.

First example is Brett Favre’s infamous picture messaging style. I thought Montana Fishburne sex tape was scandalous, but Mr. Favre took it to another level. This “Can’t Do Anything Wrong” QB decided he was so invincible that he pictured messaged his private parts to another woman a couple of years ago. When this information hit the press I just knew Commissioner Goodell would issue a suspension or some punishment for Favre’s lewd act, but to my dismay he was given another free pass to act out. That’s why I have to say “That’s Crazy!”

No sooner than this information came out, The Vikings played the Patriots. The Vikings lost, but what occurred afterwards shocked the sports world. Coach Childress decided that Randy Moss, the third All-Time Receiving TD leader, wasn’t a good player or teammate to be a part of the Vikings organization. Apparently, Coach Childress didn’t like the way that Moss handled his post game press conference, so he decided to waive him without talking to the owner. He tried to use Moss as a scapegoat for the Vikings chaos and bad record. It wouldn’t happen to be Favre’s disruptive behavior over the past couple of seasons or perhaps Coach Childress’s coaching competence or lack thereof? Hmm! This situation definitely gets the “That’s Crazy!” stamp of approval. And I mean that in a not so good way.

Finally, you have Coach Shanahan and the Washington Redskins. He thought it was in the best interest of the team to pull Donovan McNabb in the last 2 minutes of the game against the 1-5 Detroit Lions and replace him with Rex Grossman to command a final drive to win the game. Are you serious? Rex “I have more interceptions than touchdowns” Grossman is a better option than “Pro Bowler” McNabb? C’Mon Man! And the first thing Grossman did was fumbled the ball and allowed the Lions to seal the game with a TD fumble return. In the aftermath, Coach Shanahan changed his story several times and even had his son, who is on the coaching staff, speak on it as well. McNabb played the politically correct role and avoided expressing his true feelings. McNabb I will say it for you. “That’s Crazy!”

What a world we live in! Sports is definitely a microcosm of our society, especially when you look at the different treatment certain players and coaches get than others. So next time you see or hear something outlandish or preposterous don’t be afraid to say “That’s Crazy!”
